Reuben Kigame Condemns Police Killing of Albert Ojwang, Demands Justice

The leader of the Jenga Mkenya Movement, Reuben Kigame, has strongly condemned the killing of Albert Ojwang, allegedly at the hands of police officers, calling it an unlawful act that demands immediate accountability.

In a statement released Tuesday, Kigame described Ojwang’s death as "a tragic reminder of the growing culture of extrajudicial killings and police brutality" in Kenya. He asserted that no individual, including officers of the state, has the right to take a life.

“Life is sacred, and no one has the right to take it away except God, its giver,” Kigame said. “We condemn the killing of Albert Ojwang by police and demand immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.”

Albert Ojwang, whose body was reportedly discovered in Nairobi under unclear circumstances, is said to have been abducted days earlier. Eyewitnesses and family members claim he was last seen being taken away by individuals believed to be police officers, though official confirmation is yet to be released by authorities.

Kigame called on Kenyans to stand up against what he termed a “pattern of state violence,” including enforced disappearances and killings allegedly targeting activists and government critics.

“It is time for all of us to stand up and resist abduction and the shedding of innocent blood by the Kenya government,” he said.

Human rights groups have also expressed concern over the rise in reported cases of police abuse, demanding greater transparency and independent investigations into such incidents.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has yet to issue a formal statement on the case. Efforts to reach the National Police Service spokesperson were unsuccessful by the time of publication.

Kigame’s movement, Jenga Mkenya, which has been vocal on issues of governance, justice, and democracy, says it will continue to push for reforms within the police service and stronger protections for Kenyan citizens.

Ojwang’s family, meanwhile, is calling for a full investigation into his death, vowing to pursue justice.

“This country must stop treating human lives as disposable,” Kigame added. “Albert’s death must mark a turning point in how we address police violence.”
