Nyandarua County has been thrown into mourning following the untimely death of Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Beth Wahito, who died in a tragic road accident on Saturday night, June 21, 2025.

The fatal crash occurred near Heritage Hotel in Naivasha, along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, at around 11:00 PM. According to eyewitness reports, Hon. Wahito’s vehicle collided with a Guardian Angel bus as she attempted to cross an intersection. She died on the spot.

The deceased was reportedly heading home after participating in a budget committee meeting in Naivasha. Just hours earlier, Wahito had shared a message on social media indicating she was "going to the bush," a phrase interpreted by many to mean she was looking forward to a weekend retreat or time off.

Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Stephen Wachira Waiganjo confirmed the incident, describing Wahito as a respected and experienced leader whose contributions to the county spanned more than three decades.

“Beth Wahito was a dedicated public servant who rose from being a councillor in the defunct Nyandarua County Council to a nominated MCA. Her legacy in public service is undeniable,” said Speaker Waiganjo in a statement.

The Speaker also noted that Wahito was a ranking member of the Assembly who had earned the respect of colleagues across the political divide for her firm yet compassionate leadership.

Reports circulating among close friends suggest that Wahito was visibly shaken after the crash and allegedly refused to eat afterward, though these details are yet to be officially confirmed.

Tributes have continued to pour in on social media. Naivasha MP Hon. Jayne Kihara expressed deep sorrow in an emotional Facebook post:

“My friend, my sister, it's hard to believe you're no more. Mheshimiwa Wahito was more than a friend to me—she was my sister in so many ways. She was loving and caring. I have lost a trusted confidant. You stood with me in all circumstances. You've been a key pillar in my political journey. Words are not enough to express how sad I feel following your sudden death through a tragic road accident.”

Hon. Wahito’s political career included leadership roles in the Democratic Party, NARC-Kenya, and more recently as Kinangop coordinator for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
