The Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA), under the visionary and giraffic leadership of CEO Henry Rithaa, continues to break barriers in promoting inclusive economic growth. In a recent initiative held in Mombasa, MSEA, in collaboration with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) and TradeMark, rolled out an impactful skills training session focused on enhancing market access for women and youth in the blue economy through digital platforms.
The blue economy, which taps into ocean and water-based resources, holds immense potential for job creation and sustainable growth. MSEA emphasized the critical importance of empowering women and young entrepreneurs to take advantage of these opportunities. The training specifically highlighted the use of digital platforms such as iSoko, which offer MSEs a space to buy and sell products efficiently, extending their reach to both local and international markets.
MSEA actively encouraged participants to embrace e-commerce, digital payment systems, and online marketplaces as essential tools for business growth. By adopting these digital solutions, small businesses can break geographical barriers and position themselves competitively in the global market.
In a bid to further uplift youth-led enterprises, MSEA invited eligible youth to apply for the NYOTA Program, which offers support and opportunities for young entrepreneurs. Additionally, the agency urged MSE associations to consider applying for the KJET Project in future application cycles to unlock more growth avenues.
The session also addressed the importance of formalizing business associations, outlining the significant benefits that come with structured organization, including access to financing, partnerships, and government support.
Moreover, MSEA facilitated crucial market linkages for fish traders, connecting them with key fish markets and recognized trading hubs for seafood and related products, further strengthening the value chain within the blue economy.
Through this initiative, MSEA remains committed to equipping micro and small enterprises with the tools, skills, and market access they need to thrive in the modern, digitally driven economy.
