Morara Withdraws From Political Race

By Faith Cherop

Activist and former political aspirant Morara has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming election race, saying he is stepping away from politics to focus on his personal life and business ventures. In a candid message shared by the Inject People Party on Monday, Morara cited exhaustion with public scrutiny and a desire to reclaim his freedom.

"I am fine with politics. Now I can live my life, run my business, make my money, travel the world, see my friends and visit bars without the fear of being photographed. I am free," Morara said in a statement that sparked mixed reactions online.

Morara, who rose to national prominence during the 2024/2025 Gen Z protests against the Finance Bill and later gained attention for exposing incomplete government projects, has been a vocal critic of state inefficiencies and misuse of public funds.

His sudden exit from the political scene comes amid a wave of public outrage following the death of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang’, who was allegedly killed by police during a demonstration in Nairobi. Ojwang’s death has ignited widespread online discussion and galvanized national sentiment, with a protest planned for June 25 to honor those who have died due to police brutality.

In a surprising turn, despite stepping away from formal politics, Morara has reaffirmed his commitment to activism. In a social media post, he appealed to Kenyans to contribute funds to help fuel his car so that he could attend the upcoming protest.

"I'm no longer in politics, but the fight for justice continues. I need your support to get to Nairobi and stand in solidarity with the families of those we’ve lost. Even if it’s just enough to fill my tank — every shilling counts," he said.

Supporters and critics alike have flooded social media with reactions, with some questioning his sincerity and others praising his continued dedication to social justice.

The protest on June 25 is expected to draw thousands across the country, as citizens demand police accountability and justice for victims like Ojwang’. Organizers have called for a peaceful demonstration and a moment of silence to remember the fallen.

As Morara steps back from the political arena, it remains to be seen whether his influence will continue to shape public discourse from outside the system.
