Mombasa Woman Representative Zamzam Mohamed has called for increased recognition, support, and empowerment of widows, urging society to stand in solidarity with these women who often face untold struggles after the loss of their spouses.

In a heartfelt message marking International Widows Day, Zamzam Mohamed celebrated widows as women of immense strength, courage, and resilience. She emphasized that behind every widow is not just a story of loss but a powerful journey of perseverance, dignity, and hope.

Today we stand in solidarity with widows across our communities. Behind each widow is a story that speaks of pain but also of unwavering determination to rebuild their lives, she said.

The Woman Representative stressed that widows often face social stigma, economic marginalization, and emotional isolation. In many cases, they are denied their rights to inheritance, property, and decision-making within their families and communities. Zamzam Mohamed called on the nation to confront these injustices and provide widows with the tools and support they need to thrive.

As a society, we must uplift and empower these incredible women, ensuring they have access to opportunities, legal protection, and platforms to grow beyond their loss. No woman should walk the journey of widowhood in silence or isolation, she said.

Zamzam Mohamed urged policymakers, community leaders, and all Kenyans to advocate for a more compassionate and inclusive society that values the contributions and dignity of widows. She emphasized the need for supportive policies, economic empowerment programs, and strong legal frameworks to protect widows from exploitation and ensure they can live with security and hope.

To all the widows, you are seen, you are valued, and you are loved. May today remind us of our collective duty to build a society where no widow is left behind, she said.

Her message on International Widows Day serves as a powerful reminder that widows deserve more than sympathy. They deserve action, justice, and a community that genuinely stands with them as they navigate life beyond loss.
