Kiambu Family in Distress as Grade 8 Girl Goes Missing After School Confrontation

A family in Kiambu County is grappling with fear and uncertainty after their 14-year-old daughter, Lucy Wanjiku, disappeared under mysterious circumstances last Thursday — just hours after a confrontation with a teacher at school over carrying juice in her bag.

Lucy, a Grade 8 pupil at Green Valley Junior School, left home early that morning as usual. According to her mother, Margaret Njeri, she never made it back — and no one has seen or heard from her since.

“My daughter has ulcers, and the juice helps her manage dizziness during the day,” said Njeri. “The school was informed about her condition. I don’t understand why this became an issue now.”

Classmates told the family that Lucy was visibly upset after being reportedly reprimanded by a teacher during the school’s morning bag inspection. One student, who requested anonymity, recalled that Lucy appeared quiet and withdrawn after break time. “She didn’t even talk much. That was the last time we saw her,” the classmate said.

School officials have confirmed that Lucy was present in the morning but was unaccounted for after lunch. Green Valley Junior School principal, Mr. Patrick Mwangi, expressed concern and assured the public that the school is cooperating fully with investigators.

“We are deeply troubled by Lucy’s disappearance and are working closely with the police,” said Mwangi. “At this stage, we urge the public not to speculate. Our focus is on finding her safe.”

The incident has sparked wider debate about how schools handle medical accommodations and the emotional well-being of students.

Kiambu Sub-county Police Commander Joseph Thuo confirmed that an active search is underway. “We are treating this as a missing person case. Anyone with information should come forward immediately,” he said.

Meanwhile, members of the local community have mobilized to assist in the search. Volunteers are combing through nearby estates, riverbanks, and abandoned buildings in hopes of finding any clues to Lucy’s whereabouts.

“We just want her back,” said James Mbugua, Lucy’s uncle. “Alive and safe. That’s all we ask.”

The family has also circulated Lucy’s photo on social media and through local networks. She was last seen wearing her green school uniform and carrying a blue backpack.
