Kenya Police FC Crowned 2024/2025 FKF Premier League Champions After Thrilling Victory Over Shabana FC

Kenya Police FC etched their name into the annals of Kenyan football history on Sunday after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Shabana FC secured their first-ever Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title.

In a tense penultimate match of the season at the packed Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, the law enforcers only needed a point to confirm their dominance at the summit of the league. But in true champion fashion, they delivered a resounding statement of intent by taking all three points.

The encounter remained goalless after a tightly contested first half, with both teams demonstrating tactical discipline and a hunger to win. However, the breakthrough came in the 77th minute following a game-changing triple substitution made by Police FC just two minutes earlier. Defender Brian Okoth, donning jersey number 5, rose highest to meet a well-delivered corner, heading home the decisive goal that sent the stadium into rapturous celebration.

Earlier in the second half, tension escalated as the Police FC goalkeeper was cautioned in the 53rd minute for handling the ball outside the area, while Shabana FC also saw yellow in the 60th minute amid a flurry of aggressive play. Despite a near-miss opportunity in the 59th minute, Kenya Police FC maintained their composure and attacking pressure.

When the final whistle blew at 4:55 PM, it was met with thunderous cheers from jubilant fans, players, and staff. The win means that Kenya Police FC cannot be overtaken in the standings, regardless of the result of their final fixture against Gor Mahia FC on Sunday, June 22.

Club officials and dignitaries joined the celebrations on the pitch. Kenya Police FC Executive Chairman and Commandant of the National Police College – Main Campus Kiganjo, Mr. Nyale Munga, SAIG, hailed the triumph as “a sweet and overwhelming moment for the entire National Police Service and the Kenya Police FC fraternity.”

Also present at the match were high-ranking police officials including Mr. Patrick Tito, SAIG, Principal Deputy to the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police; Mr. Sospeter Munyi, SAIG, Commandant of the National Criminal Investigations Academy; and Mr. James Murithi, SSP, PA to the Inspector General.

The club’s success was also shared by sponsors and board members, with Trustee Board Treasurer Mr. Malkit Singh, Captain Richard Kubo Onyango, and Betika Head of Branding Mr. Erick Mwiti representing key stakeholders in the club's journey.

This historic win not only marks a turning point for Kenya Police FC but also underscores their growing stature as a powerhouse in Kenyan football. As anticipation builds for their final match of the season, the 2024/2025 champions can already celebrate a season of resilience, ambition, and unmatched discipline.
