As Kenya marks 62 years of self-rule, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has paid tribute to the country’s freedom fighters while calling on all citizens to uphold the spirit of Madaraka by playing their part in building a safe, just, and united nation.
In a statement released on Madaraka Day, CS Murkomen emphasized that the freedom Kenya enjoys today is the result of both historical sacrifice and ongoing collective responsibility.
“As we celebrate the heroes of our freedom struggle, we recognise that the tree of liberty is watered by each one of us through our various roles,” said CS Murkomen.
He further reaffirmed the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to safeguarding national unity, peace, and security across all regions.
“As a ministry, we renew our commitment to protecting every citizen and upholding the rule of law in every corner of our Republic,” he added.
This year’s celebrations, held under the theme “Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs,” reflect the government’s focus on harnessing Kenya’s aquatic resources to drive socio-economic transformation. CS Murkomen noted that maintaining order and stability in these emerging sectors is a critical part of ensuring their success and sustainability.
He concluded his message by extending warm Madaraka Day wishes to all Kenyans:
“Happy Madaraka Day to you all.”
The Cabinet Secretary is among senior government officials attending the national celebrations held at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County, where thousands have gathered to honor the nation’s journey toward self-governance and development.
