Homa Bay Ready to Host 62nd Madaraka Day Celebrations – PS Omollo

The stage is set in Homa Bay County as Kenya prepares to mark its 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2025. Principal Secretary for the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, today led the National Celebrations Steering Committee in a final inspection of the newly upgraded Raila Odinga Stadium—set to host the national event.

Speaking after the inspection, Dr. Omollo confirmed that all systems are in place to ensure a secure, seamless, and memorable celebration for Kenyans from all walks of life.

"The stadium is fully prepared, and the county is ready to welcome the nation. We’ve worked round the clock with national and county teams to ensure that every detail meets the highest standards,” he said.

This year's celebrations are themed "Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs," a nod to Kenya’s immense aquatic resources and their untapped potential in driving inclusive socio-economic growth. The event will highlight the country’s commitment to harnessing the blue economy, especially in lake regions such as Homa Bay, for sustainable development.

Dr. Omollo commended local and national stakeholders for their collaboration and urged Kenyans to turn out in large numbers or follow the celebrations via live broadcast.

"Karibuni Homa Bay," he added, extending a warm welcome to dignitaries and citizens attending the national fete.

The Madaraka Day celebrations mark the day Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1963, and this year’s event is expected to draw a large audience, including top government officials, foreign dignitaries, and the public.
