Former Cabinet Minister Noah Katana Ngala Pays Courtesy Call on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna

Veteran politician and former Cabinet Minister Noah Katana Ngala on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at his office in Nairobi, in a rare public appearance that drew interest from both political observers and the public alike.

Ngala, who served for decades as a Member of Parliament and held various ministerial portfolios under the Kenya African National Union (KANU) regime of the late President Daniel arap Moi, was accompanied by his son, Robert Ngala.

Speaking after the meeting, Senator Sifuna described the visit as an honour, noting the historical significance of Ngala’s contribution to Kenya’s political landscape.

"Those of us who grew up under KANU remember the name Noah Katana Ngala. He was MP and Moi’s minister for donkey years," Sifuna said. "It was humbling to host him today and to share insights across generations. His experience is invaluable, especially for those of us currently serving in public office."

The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues including the evolution of Kenya’s political scene, the role of elders in offering guidance to the current generation of leaders, and the importance of preserving democratic values and institutional memory.

Ngala, known for his calm demeanor and steady leadership during some of the country’s most politically dynamic years, has largely kept a low profile in recent times. However, his visit was a reminder of the enduring presence and wisdom of Kenya’s political veterans.

His son, Robert, also participated in the discussions, which sources described as cordial, reflective, and forward-looking.

The visit comes at a time when there is renewed focus on intergenerational dialogue in Kenyan politics, with growing calls for mentorship between older statesmen and the new crop of elected leaders navigating the complexities of governance in the modern era.

Ngala was first elected to Parliament in the 1990s and served in key ministries including Education and Transport. He was also at one point the chairman of KANU, the party that dominated Kenyan politics for nearly four decades after independence.
