Nandi Senator Kiprotich Arap Cherargei has issued a scathing statement condemning Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kipchumba Murkomen for the government’s continued failure to address insecurity in the Kerio Valley, following the brutal murder of Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett of St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish.
Speaking out on behalf of grieving residents, Senator Cherargei accused CS Murkomen of incompetence, laziness, and betrayal, noting that the same leader who once decried banditry in the region is now silent as lives are lost under his watch.
“CS Murkomen should be reminded that charity begins at home. A few years ago, he loudly complained about the insecurity in Kerio Valley. Today, with all the instruments of state power at his disposal, he has failed his people,” said Senator Cherargei.
In a sharply worded rebuke, the senator claimed that Murkomen, acting out of frustration and panic, directed the National Police Service to downplay the killing of Fr. Bett by suggesting it was unrelated to banditry—an assertion the senator called “insulting and dishonest.”
“We will not allow the late priest to be maligned in death. Fr. Bett was a man of peace, a servant of God, and a respected community leader. The truth is clear: bandits have turned Kerio Valley into a war zone, and the government is sleeping on the job,” he added.
Cherargei called for immediate security operations to flush out criminal elements and restore safety to residents who have endured days of relentless attacks.
“Kazi imemshinda kabisa. Our people are being slaughtered like goats while the CS plays politics. Enough is enough.”
He ended his statement with words of condolence to the community: “Mutyo mising bikap gaa. We stand with the families of the victims, and we demand justice without compromise.”
