Rigathi Gachagua Sounds Alarm Over Government Mismanagement and Corruption

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stark warning to Kenyans about the deepening crisis in public service delivery, corruption, and political manipulation under the current government, urging citizens to remain vigilant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in a candid address, Gachagua painted a grim picture of the state of key public sectors. He lamented the lack of capitation funds in schools, leaving principals caught in a desperate struggle between unpaid bills and the painful decision of sending students home over levies. “Our principals are being treated to a game of musical chairs by the government,” he said.

Gachagua further highlighted the collapse of the healthcare system, describing hospitals as “a shell of what has been left” after years of neglect and empty promises. Government workers, he added, are facing wage cuts, delayed salaries, and zero facilitation, compounding their frustrations.

The former deputy president also drew attention to the plight of contractors and suppliers who face asset auctions due to unpaid bills. Meanwhile, he accused the government of diverting public funds collected from taxpayers to security agencies tasked with bribing women groups and boda boda operators to secure votes, as well as financing political campaigns and hiring goons to disrupt opposition meetings.

“The little money available has been diverted through security agencies to bribe women and boda boda operators, finance the 2027 campaign, and pay goons to disrupt meetings of those advocating for regime change,” Gachagua said.

He also condemned the co-option of musicians and creative artists into what he described as a campaign to “sell that which cannot be bought,” urging Kenyans to guard their souls despite the widespread corruption.

Quoting a local proverb, Gachagua said, “We shall never bury the elephant with its tusks,” warning that those responsible for the current rot should be held accountable before it’s too late.

Drawing lessons from history, he reminded Kenyans of the devastating impact the infamous Kshs. 500 notes had on the economy and political landscape in 1992, a price the nation is still paying over three decades later.

“History, just like truth, cannot be buried or wished away,” he stated emphatically. “We must remind those hawking money in bags what the past taught us.”

In closing, Gachagua called on Kenyans to remain vigilant and resist manipulation, urging them to protect the country’s future.

“Be vigilant, dear Kenyans,” he urged. “Our democracy and nation depend on it.”
