President Ruto Orders Swift Investigation into Death of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were

President William Ruto has condemned the killing of Kasipul Member of Parliament Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, calling it a tragic loss for the nation and demanding a swift and thorough investigation.

In a statement released early Wednesday, President Ruto expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late MP and the people of Kasipul. "May God grant the family and the people of Kasipul strength to bear with the loss of Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were," the President said.

Hon. Were was shot dead by unknown assailants along Ngong Road in Nairobi on the evening of April 30. The attack has sparked public outcry and renewed concerns about political violence in Kenya.

President Ruto urged the National Police Service to act decisively and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. “We urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. Those responsible must be held to account,” he said.

Reaffirming his administration’s stance against extrajudicial killings, President Ruto stated, “There shall never be another occasion where we have bodies of Kenyans in River Yala. Not under my watch.”

The late Hon. Were was serving his second term as Kasipul MP and was respected for his commitment to public service and active role in parliamentary affairs. His death has left a deep void in both local leadership and national politics.

The President called for unity and urged leaders and the public to allow investigations to proceed without political interference, emphasizing the importance of justice, law, and order in a democratic society.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects, as the nation awaits answers in the shocking assassination.
