The Office of the Governor, Trans-Nzoia County, has issued a firm and detailed response to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), dismissing recent claims of a KSh 1.4 billion embezzlement as “baseless, politically motivated, and factually incorrect.”
In an official statement released today, the county government denounced the accusations against H.E. Governor George Natembeya, calling the EACC’s allegations a “troubling reliance on propaganda over facts.”
Key Projects Under Scrutiny: Facts Presented
The county government clarified the status of three key projects cited in the EACC report:
Tom Mboya Mother and Child Facility
Contrary to the EACC's assertion that the facility is non-existent, the governor's office confirmed that the project is actively under construction. The health facility is funded through a KSh 250 million grant from the World Bank, with an additional KSh 200 million invested by the county to scale up its impact. “This is a visible, ongoing investment in maternal and child health—not a ghost project,” the statement emphasized.
County Headquarters
The completed county headquarters, valued at KSh 600 million, now serves as the administrative heart of Trans-Nzoia. The structure, according to the county, is a “symbol of functional governance and transformation,” offering improved service delivery and operational efficiency.
Trans-Nzoia Stadium
Designed to nurture youth and sporting talent in the region, the KSh 600 million stadium is another tangible development cited by the EACC. The county dismissed any suggestion that the project is fictitious, stating the stadium is already operational and a source of community pride.
Political Motives Suspected
The Office of the Governor raised concerns about the arithmetic used in the allegations: 250M + 200M (health facility) + 600M (headquarters) + 600M (stadium) — totaling the alleged KSh 1.4 billion. “It is now clear that the EACC has been fed propaganda disguised as facts—a calculated attempt to soil the image of a working, visionary governor,” the statement read.
Call for Professionalism
The county administration has urged the EACC to engage in impartial, field-based verification of facts rather than “desk-bound political scripting.” It also called on the national oversight bodies to uphold the integrity and fairness expected in public investigations.
“The people of Trans-Nzoia can see the transformation with their own eyes. They deserve truth and professionalism, not politically charged witch hunts,” the statement concluded.
