Kalonzo Calls on Kindiki to Resign Amid Gachagua Court Ruling

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to "do the honourable thing and resign," following the Court of Appeal's ruling that reinstated Rigathi Gachagua as the country's Deputy President.

In a strongly worded statement released Sunday, Kalonzo said the court’s decision had "clearly demonstrated the illegality and political manipulation" behind Gachagua's removal from office, asserting that Kenya had been operating under a flawed leadership arrangement.

“We currently have two deputy presidents—Kithure Kindiki and Rigathi Gachagua. This is an untenable and unconstitutional situation,” said Kalonzo. “Kindiki should step aside immediately to pave the way for the full restoration of constitutional order and allow due process to take its course.”

The Court of Appeal’s landmark decision overturned an earlier High Court ruling that had disqualified Gachagua from office on grounds of alleged integrity violations and abuse of office. The appellate judges cited procedural errors and insufficient evidence in the initial judgment.

Kalonzo further warned against any attempts to defy the court ruling, urging President William Ruto and government institutions to uphold the independence of the judiciary and respect the rule of law.

“This is a moment for introspection, not political games. The Kenyan people deserve leadership grounded in legality and transparency,” he stated.

The political fallout from the ruling is expected to spark fresh debate on the stability of the Kenya Kwanza administration and the future of power-sharing arrangements at the top echelons of government.
