Governor Lusaka Champions Agri-Industrial Push as CAIPS Momentum Builds Under Dr. Mwaura’s Leadership

Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has thrown his full weight behind the upcoming County Agri-Industrialization and Processing Summit (CAIPS), hailing the efforts of Dr. Faith Mwaura of the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC) for steering a groundbreaking collaborative push toward agricultural transformation in Western Kenya.

Speaking after attending a high-level pre-conference meeting led by Dr. Mwaura, Governor Lusaka praised the initiative as a “turning point” for counties in the region, highlighting the urgent need to shift from subsistence farming to agri-industrialization that empowers farmers and drives economic development.

“The vision and coordination demonstrated by Dr. Mwaura is exactly what we need to unlock the immense potential of our agricultural sector,” said Lusaka. “Bungoma is ready to play its part in ensuring CAIPS delivers not just dialogue, but tangible results.”

The pre-summit meeting, organized by KDC, brought together a powerful lineup of stakeholders including the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment (MITI), the Kenya Investment Authority, agricultural NGO One Acre Fund, and governors from five Western counties. The meeting aimed to align strategies ahead of CAIPS and solidify commitments to regional agri-industrial growth.

Governor Lusaka emphasized that for regions like Bungoma, where agriculture is the backbone of the economy, industrialization and value addition are no longer optional. “We must move beyond raw produce exports. Our farmers deserve better markets, better prices, and better livelihoods—and that begins with serious investment in processing and agro-based industries,” he said.

With CAIPS on the horizon, Lusaka reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with both national agencies and county governments to build a unified approach to rural industrialization. He also noted that Bungoma is already laying groundwork through infrastructure upgrades and incentives for agribusiness investors.

The governor concluded by calling on all stakeholders to ensure that CAIPS is a milestone event, not just a conference. “Let us go beyond talk. Let CAIPS be the platform that launches a new era of prosperity for Western Kenya.”

The CAIPS summit, which is expected to draw participants from across the agriculture value chain, is being positioned as a catalyst for sustainable, inclusive, and transformative growth in the region’s agri-sector.
