Governor Jonathan Bii: Water Projects Transforming Lives Across Uasin Gishu

In a bold step toward improving the quality of life for residents, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, popularly known as Koti Moja, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering clean and reliable water to all corners of the county.

Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing water initiatives, Governor Bii highlighted the tangible progress being made under the county’s water development agenda, anchored on the people-centered slogan “Meche Biko Beko”—loosely translated as "Water is Life."

“Our commitment is not just about promises but action,” said Governor Bii. “Water is an essential commodity that unites and uplifts communities. That is why we have made it a priority to ensure every household, regardless of location, has access to safe and sufficient water.”

Among the flagship initiatives currently transforming lives is the Nabkoi - Burnt Forest–Chereber-Barekeiwo Water Project, which is already delivering results. Residents along the pipeline route have started benefiting from clean water, a development that is improving sanitation, boosting agriculture, and reducing the burden on women and children who often trek long distances in search of water.

Governor Bii emphasized that similar projects are ongoing across all six sub-counties, reflecting a deliberate effort by his administration to address historical water shortages and prepare the county for future growth.

“These water projects are not just about today—they are investments in health, food security, and economic empowerment for generations to come,” he added.

Residents have lauded the initiative, describing it as life-changing. “Before this project, we had to fetch water from rivers, which was time-consuming and unsafe. Now, we have clean water at our doorstep,” said Margaret Chepkemoi, a resident of Barekeiwo.

Governor Bii pledged continued collaboration with national government agencies, development partners, and local communities to expand water coverage, enhance sustainability, and ensure no ward is left behind.

As Uasin Gishu strides forward under his leadership, water remains a symbol of unity and progress—true to the spirit of “Meche Biko Beko.”
