The Uasin Gishu County Government has been plunged into mourning following the tragic and untimely death of Father Alloyce Cheruiyot Bett, a beloved priest of the Chesunet Catholic Church, who was killed earlier today in Tot.
In a heartfelt statement issued this evening, Governor Jonathan Bii expressed profound sorrow over the loss, describing Father Bett as “a devoted servant of God, a beacon of compassion, and a pillar of strength to his community.”
“We mourn with heavy hearts the tragic loss of Father Alloyce Cheruiyot Bett,” said Governor Bii. “His charisma, unwavering faith, and deep connection with his congregation made him not just a religious leader, but a source of hope, guidance, and comfort to all who knew him.”
Father Bett served under the Eldoret Catholic Diocese and was known for his tireless dedication to the spiritual and social well-being of his parishioners. His pastoral work extended beyond the church walls—touching the lives of youth, the elderly, and the vulnerable in society.
The governor decried the senseless violence that claimed the life of the priest, calling for urgent action from the relevant authorities. “We urge the security agencies to move with speed and bring those responsible to justice. This heinous act cannot go unanswered. Our communities must feel safe, and our leaders—spiritual and otherwise—must be protected.”
Governor Bii also extended his condolences to Father Bett’s family, the Eldoret Catholic Diocese, and the faithful of Chesunet Catholic Church, assuring them of the county’s support during this time of grief.
