The transformation of agriculture in Uasin Gishu County took another significant step forward today as Governor Jonathan Bii spearheaded the distribution of coffee seedlings in the Besiobor area, Turbo Sub-County. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote coffee farming as a high-value crop and elevate the livelihoods of local farmers.
Speaking during the event, Governor Bii emphasized the county’s commitment to strengthening agribusiness under the Nguzo Kumi development agenda. “The momentum behind coffee farming as a high-value crop continues to grow, offering our farmers a path to better incomes,” said Governor Bii. “Today’s exercise is not just about seedlings—it’s about building a sustainable, prosperous future for our farming communities.”
Governor Bii was joined by Baringo Governor H.E. Benjamin Cheboi, Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor Hon. Evans Kapkea, and several senior county officials. The presence of multiple leaders underscored the regional importance of the initiative and the growing inter-county collaboration to boost agricultural productivity.
The coffee seedling distribution is part of an ongoing effort to diversify crops, improve value chains, and enhance food security while positioning Uasin Gishu as a leader in agribusiness innovation. Governor Bii noted that coffee farming, long underutilized in parts of the Rift Valley, holds untapped potential to generate employment and boost export revenue.
“We are empowering our farmers not just with seedlings, but with training, extension services, and access to markets. This is a full-cycle approach designed to ensure that coffee farming becomes a viable and rewarding venture,” he added.
Farmers in Besiobor and surrounding areas welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that coffee would soon become a key income generator alongside traditional staples. County officials also affirmed that follow-up support would be provided to ensure the seedlings thrive and contribute to long-term agricultural success.
Governor Bii concluded by reiterating his administration’s dedication to unlocking opportunities through agriculture, saying, “We will continue walking this journey with our farmers, investing in what truly matters, and delivering on the promise of a better, more secure economic future.”
