Final Journey of the Late Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were Begins in Homa Bay

The body of the late Kasipul Member of Parliament, Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, arrived at Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay County this morning, marking the solemn beginning of his final journey to his home in Karabok, Central Kasipul.

The fallen legislator was received with full honours by a delegation of fellow Members of Parliament and dignitaries, including Hon. Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Hon. Wilberforce Oundo (Funyula), Hon. Rosa Buyu (Kisumu West), Hon. Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay Town), Hon. Eve Obara (Kabondo Kasipul), Hon. Martin Owino (Ndhiwa), Hon. Millie Odhiambo (Suba North), Hon. Adipo Okwome (Rachuonyo), Senator T.J. Kajwang’ (Homa Bay County), and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga.

As the funeral convoy wound its way through Homa Bay, hundreds of residents lined the streets in a moving display of grief and solidarity, bidding farewell to a leader they described as passionate, dedicated, and deeply connected to his community.

Hon. Ong’ondo Were, who was serving his second term in Parliament, tragically lost his life on the night of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, after being shot by unknown gunmen along Ngong Road shortly after leaving Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.

Following today’s reception, the procession will proceed to Agoro Sare High School in Kasipul, where religious services, public prayers, and body viewing will take place. An overnight vigil will then be held at his home in Karabok.

The late MP will be laid to rest on Friday, May 9, 2025, at his Agoro residence in Central Kasipul.
