Eldoret-Based Human Rights Activist Kipkorir Ngetich Calls Out Rigathi Gachagua Over Incendiary Tribal Remarks

Prominent human rights advocate Kipkorir Ngetich has launched a scathing attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of fueling tribal tensions, insulting the presidency, and endangering national unity through what he described as "reckless and primitive political rhetoric."

In a strongly worded statement issued in Eldoret, Ngetich called on Gachagua to refrain from dragging President William Ruto’s name into what he termed as “dirty tribal politics.” He warned that continued derogatory references to the President—such as calling him a “murderer”—would no longer be tolerated and demanded immediate legal scrutiny into Gachagua’s conduct.

“Mr. Gachagua, your days of reckless speech are numbered. The law must catch up with you,” Ngetich said. “You have chosen to hide behind the Kikuyu community to launch unwarranted attacks on the President, and this is not only dangerous but deeply irresponsible.”

He expressed concern that Gachagua’s utterances are setting up the Kikuyu community, who live and work peacefully across Kenya, against other communities. Ngetich posed a direct challenge to leaders and residents of the Mt. Kenya region, asking whether they support Gachagua’s increasingly divisive tone.

“Are you raising a warmonger? Are you preparing Kenya for tribal clashes?” he asked. “The youth, professionals, and business people from Mt. Kenya must reflect deeply and speak up. Is Gachagua speaking for your values, or dragging your name into a dangerous political game?”

Ngetich emphasized that President Ruto has chosen the path of peace, unity, and development, but stressed that this should not be mistaken for weakness. He called on law enforcement to take a firm stand against any speech that threatens Kenya’s delicate ethnic harmony.

The activist warned of the possible consequences if Gachagua, or anyone he backs, ascends to power on a platform of hatred, tribalism, and revenge. He alleged that Gachagua’s political strategy involves manipulating Kenya’s youth—especially Generation Z—into adopting a bitter, divisive ideology.

“Gachagua is misleading the youth, especially Gen Z, by sowing seeds of discord and ethnic resentment,” he said. “His brand of politics is like a hungry hyena feasting on the country’s peace and feeding the youth rotten meat.”

Ngetich urged Kenyan youth to remain vigilant and refuse to be used as tools of hate. He especially highlighted the dangerous rhetoric aimed at communities such as the Kalenjin and Luo, whose leaders have publicly supported the broad-based, inclusive government agenda.

“Kenya will only be secure and progressive if we reject Gachagua’s toxic politics,” he stated. “We must embrace peace, national unity, and coexistence—values that define our nation.”

He concluded by appealing to all Kenyans to stay peaceful, promote neighborly harmony, and shun tribalism in all its forms, warning that the country must not slip back into ethnic divisions fueled by careless political ambition.
