Zamzam Mohamed Advances Economic Empowerment Through TukTuk Project in Mombasa

Mombasa Woman Representative Hon. Zamzam Mohamed has reaffirmed her commitment to grassroots economic empowerment following her participation in the launch of the TukTuk Empowerment Project at Refinery Grounds in Airport Ward, Mombasa County.

The initiative, implemented under the Empowering Maua Legacy Women Umbrella, seeks to promote economic empowerment, strengthen livelihoods and create opportunities for residents through initiatives designed to support community development.

Zamzam attended the launch alongside Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and Airport Ward MCA Hon. Bomoah, demonstrating a shared focus on initiatives aimed at improving the economic prospects of local communities.

The project highlights the importance of practical empowerment programmes that seek to create opportunities for individuals and families to improve their livelihoods and participate more actively in the local economy.

TukTuks play an important role in urban mobility and the transport sector, providing services that connect residents to workplaces, markets, businesses and essential services. Initiatives that support access to such economic opportunities can contribute to income generation and strengthen participation in the informal and small-business sectors.

For Mombasa, a county whose economy is supported by trade, transport, tourism and small enterprises, community-based empowerment initiatives can complement wider efforts to expand livelihoods and promote inclusive growth.

Zamzam’s participation reflects the importance of collaboration between national constituency leadership, county government and community organisations in advancing programmes that respond to local economic needs.

Through partnerships such as the one associated with the Empowering Maua Legacy Women Umbrella, leaders and community groups can help create platforms for economic participation and encourage residents to pursue sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The involvement of Governor Nassir and Airport Ward MCA Bomoah also underscored the role of cooperation across levels of leadership in supporting initiatives intended to benefit residents.

Beyond the launch itself, the long-term value of the TukTuk Empowerment Project will depend on its implementation, the opportunities it creates for beneficiaries and the sustainability of the livelihoods it supports.

Effective empowerment programmes can help individuals strengthen their financial independence, support their families and contribute to the economic wellbeing of their neighbourhoods.

Zamzam has continued to emphasise the importance of initiatives that uplift communities and expand opportunities for residents across Mombasa County. Her participation in the launch reinforces this focus on practical interventions that connect development aspirations with people's everyday economic needs.

The initiative also speaks to the broader importance of inclusive development, where economic opportunities are made accessible to communities and local residents are supported in building more secure livelihoods.

For residents of Airport Ward and the wider Mombasa community, the project offers an opportunity to strengthen local economic activity through an initiative focused on empowerment and livelihood development.

As the programme progresses, collaboration among leaders, community organisations and beneficiaries will be important in ensuring that its objectives translate into meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

Zamzam’s message is clear: empowering communities requires sustained commitment, partnerships and initiatives that create opportunities for people to improve their lives.

Under the banner #MOMBASAFAHARIYANGU, the TukTuk Empowerment Project adds to the continuing conversation about inclusive development and the importance of expanding economic opportunities across Mombasa County.
