President William Ruto on Wednesday continued his development tour of the North Rift region, with road construction, electricity connectivity, modern markets and education infrastructure taking centre stage during his visit to West Pokot County.
The President began his engagements in Konyao, Kacheliba Constituency, where he launched the Konyao–Kiwawa–Alale road project. He later inspected the Kapsait–Kapsangar–Tapach–Sondany road project in Pokot South Constituency, valued at KSh2.3 billion.
The road project is part of a broader government investment of KSh21 billion to construct 200 kilometres of roads across West Pokot County, aimed at improving transport, connecting communities and supporting economic activities.
Ruto also announced a KSh1 billion investment in last-mile electricity connectivity in Kacheliba Constituency, seeking to address longstanding challenges in access to power.
“To address longstanding failure to expand access to electricity in Kacheliba Constituency, West Pokot County, we are investing KSh1 billion in last-mile connectivity, the largest allocation to a single constituency in Kenya,” the President said.
He also noted that the first KSh100 million phase of the road project had been launched in Konyao, describing the investments as part of his administration's commitment to equitable development and ensuring that no region is left behind.
Following his engagements in West Pokot, the President was scheduled to proceed to Trans Nzoia County, where his itinerary included inspecting the Sibanga Economic Stimulus Programme market in Cherangany Constituency and the Mwaita–Bwage–Makutano–Kapsara–Kobos road.
In Kiminini Constituency, Ruto was expected to launch the Kiminini–Mitoto–Ndalu–Brigadier road, inspect the Kiminini Modern Market and commission Kiminini Comprehensive School.
During his Kiminini visit, the President also interacted with pupils, teachers and local leaders, taking time to encourage learners to remain focused on their education.
In a message to pupils, Ruto wished learners across the country success in their studies, pledging his personal support and attention. He urged them to take their schoolwork seriously, complete their homework and work hard to excel in their examinations.
The North Rift development tour forms part of the government's broader infrastructure and economic development agenda, with investments in roads, electricity, markets and education expected to improve service delivery and create opportunities for local communities.
The tour is expected to culminate in the Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20, 2026, at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, bringing the national festivities to the heart of the North Rift region.
