Natembeya’s Coffee Revival Initiative Delivers 20,000 Seedlings to Trans Nzoia Farmers

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya’s coffee revival initiative has gained momentum following the distribution of 20,000 coffee seedlings to farmers in Botwa and Chebukaka.

County CEC Hon. Phanice Naliaka Khatundi led the distribution exercise, which targeted Botwa and Chebukaka Farmers’ Cooperative Societies as part of efforts to expand coffee production in the county.

The seedlings, predominantly of the Batian variety, were distributed ahead of the anticipated rains to enable farmers to plant and establish new coffee farms under the initiative.

The programme seeks to boost coffee production in emerging growing regions, encourage more farmers to join the coffee value chain and support the government’s broader efforts to revitalise Kenya’s coffee sector.

Through the initiative, Governor Natembeya’s administration is seeking to promote agricultural diversification and create more opportunities for farmers to benefit from coffee farming.

The timing of the distribution ahead of the rains is expected to give farmers an opportunity to establish their seedlings under favourable planting conditions.

The initiative also highlights Trans Nzoia County’s efforts to expand its agricultural base and strengthen farmers’ participation in a sector with potential to generate income and create economic opportunities in rural communities.
