“Murkomen Wants to Kill Me!” Natembeya Alleges Plot as War With Ruto Government Escalates

By Wasike Elvis

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has raised fresh alarm over his personal safety, alleging that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is targeting him on the orders of President William Ruto.

The explosive claim comes amid an escalating political confrontation between Natembeya and the Kenya Kwanza administration over development projects, the governor’s opposition politics and the 2027 General Election.

The allegation, captured in the statement, “CS Kipchumba Murkomen anataka kuniua!” — translated as “CS Kipchumba Murkomen wants to kill me!” — adds a new dimension to the growing political dispute. The specific allegation of a plot to kill him has not been independently verified.

Political Tensions Rise After Endebess Clash

The allegations come against the backdrop of a public exchange between Natembeya, President Ruto and Murkomen during the President’s development tour of Trans Nzoia County on October 10, 2026.

According to reports by Nation Africa and People Daily, Ruto accused Natembeya of frustrating national government development initiatives, including hospital construction and the planned upgrading of Kitale Stadium.

Murkomen also criticised the governor, alleging that he had obstructed key projects and warning that Trans Nzoia residents could elect a different governor in the 2027 General Election.

Natembeya, in response to the President's criticism, defended his opposition stance, insisting that development resources should benefit all residents regardless of their political affiliations. He also argued that the national government must respect devolution and the constitutional responsibilities of county governments.

The latest claim, if confirmed as a direct statement by the governor, would further intensify the dispute between the county leadership and senior figures in the national government.

As of the sources reviewed for this report, I could not independently verify the specific allegation that Murkomen intends to kill Natembeya or that President Ruto ordered such an action. No response from Murkomen or State House specifically addressing this latest allegation was found in the material reviewed.

The political standoff is unfolding as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with development, devolution, security and political freedom emerging as central points of contention.
