Kajiado County Woman Representative and KEWOPA Chairperson Sopiato Leah Sankaire has shared Kenya’s experience in advancing women’s leadership and parliamentary representation during the Bhutan Women Leaders Caucus Conference held at Pema Hotel in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Addressing the conference as one of the key speakers, Sankaire highlighted the role of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) in promoting sustainable leadership networks, cross-party collaboration, mentorship and leadership development for women parliamentarians and other women leaders. The conference was held under the theme, *“Women in Politics: Shaping a More Inclusive and Representative Democracy.”*

Sankaire emphasised that increased representation of women in leadership does not happen by accident, but requires deliberate planning, organisation and sustained action. She noted that amplifying women’s voices was essential to advancing inclusion, good governance and sustainable leadership.

The conference brought together senior leaders from Bhutan, including the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Speaker of the National Council, the Leader of the Official Opposition, government representatives, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and civil society organisations.

Through her participation, Sankaire shared Kenya’s parliamentary experience while engaging with leaders on approaches to strengthening women’s participation in decision-making and building inclusive democratic institutions.

In her message, the Kajiado Woman Representative reaffirmed her commitment to women’s leadership and development, signing off with her signature slogan, “Mbele Kuzuri”, alongside her identity as Mama County 034 and Chairperson of KEWOPA.

Her participation highlights the importance of international exchanges in sharing experiences, strengthening networks and exploring practical approaches to expanding women’s representation in political and public leadership.
