Kenya Tourism Sector Records Major Growth as Miano Targets 5 Million Annual Visitors
Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano EGH has hailed the latest growth in Kenya’s tourism and hospitality sector, describing the performance as a major turning point for the industry and the country’s wider economy.
Miano said the latest tourism figures demonstrate the impact of strategic policy frameworks, targeted international marketing and strengthened partnerships between the government and private sector.
According to the CS, the growth goes beyond improved visitor numbers, with the expanding tourism industry expected to contribute significantly to job creation, community incomes and investment in conservation.
“Beyond the statistics, this trajectory represents real economic transformation,” Miano said, noting that a vibrant tourism sector creates opportunities for young people while generating sustainable revenue for communities living around key tourist destinations.
She said the government is also focused on accelerating investment in national parks and expanding the country’s coastal tourism circuit as Kenya seeks to strengthen its position as a leading global destination.
Miano said Kenya has set its sights on welcoming 5 million international visitors annually, with the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife working to diversify the country’s tourism offerings.
The CS said Kenya will continue blending its world-renowned wildlife safari experiences with its rich cultural diversity and vibrant lifestyle experiences to attract tourists from different parts of the world.
She, however, emphasized that tourism expansion must go hand in hand with conservation, ensuring that the country’s natural heritage is protected for future generations.
Miano expressed gratitude to hospitality workers, wildlife conservationists, host communities and travelers for their contribution to Kenya’s growing tourism industry.
She said their efforts continue to strengthen Kenya’s reputation as a global destination of choice while supporting economic transformation across the country.
