Amb. Geoffrey Kaituko Advances Kenya–Canada Economic Ties Through Diaspora Investment
Acting High Commissioner of Kenya to Canada Amb. Geoffrey Kaituko is stepping up efforts to strengthen economic diplomacy between Kenya and Canada, with a focus on unlocking investment opportunities in agriculture, energy, mining and diaspora-led enterprise.
Kaituko underscored the importance of building practical partnerships following a meeting with Franklin Epape, a Cameroonian-Canadian entrepreneur and Executive Director of the Africa Development Network, to explore avenues for deepening economic cooperation between the two countries.
The discussions focused on Canada's Africa Strategy and opportunities for collaboration in sectors that could support investment, trade, knowledge exchange and sustainable economic growth.
A key area of engagement was the role of diaspora networks in connecting investors, entrepreneurs and institutions across borders. Such networks can help bridge information gaps, open access to markets, facilitate business partnerships and channel investment into productive sectors of the Kenyan economy.
Kaituko's engagement reflects the growing importance of economic diplomacy in advancing Kenya's international partnerships beyond traditional diplomatic relations, with an emphasis on tangible commercial opportunities and mutually beneficial outcomes.
Agriculture presents opportunities for cooperation in production, value addition, technology and market access, while the energy sector offers scope for investment and knowledge exchange. Mining also features among the areas identified for potential collaboration, particularly in linking investors and businesses with opportunities in the sector.
The discussions also highlighted the importance of creating platforms where entrepreneurs, investors and institutions can meet, exchange ideas and establish relationships that translate into viable business ventures.
In this regard, the Africa Diaspora Business Forum, scheduled for November 19–21, 2026, is expected to provide an important opportunity to bring together business leaders, investors and institutions to explore partnerships and strengthen economic links between Africa and its diaspora communities.
The forum is positioned as a platform for identifying investment prospects, fostering commercial relationships and encouraging collaboration across markets.
For Kenya, engaging diaspora entrepreneurs and investors can help mobilise capital, connect local businesses to international markets and facilitate the transfer of skills, expertise and innovative business practices.
Kaituko said the Kenyan High Commission in Canada remains committed to advancing economic diplomacy that transforms shared interests into practical partnerships and measurable results.
The approach places emphasis on connecting people, ideas and capital to create sustainable economic opportunities for both Kenya and Canada.
As the two countries continue exploring areas of mutual interest, engagements with business networks such as the Africa Development Network could help identify new avenues for collaboration and strengthen private-sector participation in bilateral economic relations.
The broader ambition is to ensure that diplomatic engagements deliver value beyond official meetings by opening doors for entrepreneurs, encouraging investment and building commercial partnerships that contribute to long-term prosperity.
Through sustained engagement with diaspora networks and business institutions, Kaituko is seeking to strengthen Kenya's economic presence in Canada while positioning the diaspora as an important partner in the country's trade, investment and development agenda.
