Pfizer CEO Dr. Albert Bourla Visits MTRH as Kenya Eyes Stronger Partnerships in Cancer Care

Pfizer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Albert Bourla has paid a courtesy visit to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH), in a high-level engagement focused on strengthening healthcare delivery, research and cancer care in Kenya.

Dr. Bourla, who led a Pfizer delegation to the hospital, held discussions with MTRH management and healthcare professionals on the facility’s specialized services, particularly in Oncology and Pathology.

The visit provided an opportunity for the two sides to explore potential areas of collaboration that could improve access to quality and specialized healthcare services for patients.

MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Kirwa welcomed the engagement, saying partnerships with global pharmaceutical companies could play an important role in supporting the hospital’s efforts to enhance patient care.

He identified cancer treatment, medical research, innovation and capacity building among the key areas where collaboration could deliver significant benefits.

Dr. Kirwa also pointed to opportunities for strengthening access to essential medicines and advanced healthcare technologies, particularly as demand for specialized medical services continues to grow.

The engagement between MTRH and Pfizer underscores the growing importance of partnerships between Kenya’s public health institutions and global pharmaceutical companies in advancing healthcare.

The discussions also placed emphasis on strengthening cancer care, research and innovation, as well as building the capacity of healthcare professionals and improving access to modern treatment technologies.

The visit by the Pfizer chief executive further raises the profile of MTRH as a key referral and teaching institution in Kenya and highlights the potential for international partnerships to support the hospital’s specialized healthcare mandate.
