Former UASU UoE Chapter Secretary General Chebunet Questions Lecturer’s Political Remarks

 

Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member for Trade and former University of Eldoret (UoE) UASU Chapter Secretary General Philip Chebunet has questioned the credentials and conduct of an individual presenting himself as a lecturer at the university.

Chebunet said the individual was not in his records as the UASU Secretary General of the UoE chapter during his tenure before he left office.

He further claimed that the individual is a part-time procurement officer and disputed his description as a trained lecturer.

The remarks come amid concerns over a video circulating online in which the individual is alleged to have turned a lecture hall into a political forum.

In the video, the individual addresses students he identifies as being from Mount Kenya and Western Kenya, telling them that if they vote President William Ruto out of office in the 2027 General Election, they should return to universities in their respective home regions.

The remarks have sparked debate over the involvement of lecturers in political discourse within university learning spaces and concerns about statements perceived as creating divisions among students based on their regional backgrounds.

Chebunet made the remarks while speaking to the press at the University of Eldoret.
