Wetang’ula, Natembeya, Barasa Lead Outpouring of Condolences as Boni Khalwale Mourns Wife Gloria

A wave of condolence messages has continued to pour in for Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale following the death of his wife, Mama Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, with senior political leaders visiting the family in Malinya, Ikolomani Constituency, to offer support and comfort.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi were among leaders who visited the Khalwale family as preparations continued for Gloria’s burial.

The leaders described the loss of a spouse and mother as a deeply painful experience, urging the bereaved family to remain strong and find comfort in the support of relatives, friends and Kenyans who have stood with them during the mourning period.

Wetang’ula visited Khalwale’s home in Malinya and conveyed condolences on his own behalf, on behalf of his family and Parliament of Kenya.

He also delivered a message of condolence from President William Ruto, together with the President’s gesture of goodwill and support to the family at a difficult moment.

“On my own behalf, on behalf of my family, and on behalf of the Parliament of Kenya, I have today condoled with the family of my brother and friend of many years, the Kakamega Senator, Hon. (Dr.) Boni Khalwale,” Wetang’ula said.

The Speaker described the death of a loved one, particularly a spouse and mother to young children, as a painful life experience that requires friends and leaders to stand with the bereaved.

Wetang’ula also fondly remembered Mama Gloria as a kind and hospitable woman who warmly welcomed visitors whenever Senator Khalwale hosted them at his home.

He said her hospitality and warmth left a lasting impression on those who interacted with her, noting that moments of bereavement remind society of the importance of standing together and extending both words and acts of kindness to grieving families.

Wetang’ula called for solidarity and prayer as the Khalwale family comes to terms with the loss.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya also joined other leaders in visiting the family, describing Gloria’s death as an untimely loss.

Natembeya said he joined fellow leaders in Malinya to stand with Senator Khalwale and his family during the difficult period.

“On behalf of the people of Trans Nzoia County and on my own behalf, I extend my deepest sympathies to Hon. Khalwale, his children, and the entire family during this difficult time,” Natembeya said.

He prayed for God to give the family strength, comfort and peace as they mourn Gloria and prepare to lay her to rest.

Natembeya further conveyed his condolences to Gloria’s friends and other people who knew her, saying her passing had left a painful void among those close to the family.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa was also at the Khalwale home, where he condoled with the senator following the death of his wife.

Barasa described Gloria as Senator Khalwale’s beloved wife and extended his condolences to the entire family, friends and loved ones.

“As the family prepares to lay her to rest tomorrow, I extend my sincere condolences to Senator Khalwale, his family, friends and loved ones. May Mama Gloria's soul rest in eternal peace,” Barasa said.

Barasa’s visit came as leaders from across the political divide continued to rally behind Khalwale and his family, demonstrating solidarity with the senator during the period of mourning.

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi also visited Khalwale’s home to personally offer his condolences and support.

Osotsi acknowledged the pain that comes with losing a spouse and assured Khalwale that he was standing with the family in grief and prayer.

“My brother Senator Dr Boni Khalwale, it is painful. As you lay to rest your wife, Gloria, tomorrow, accept my message of condolences. I stand in grief with your family as I pray for God's strength during this difficult time,” Osotsi said.

Osotsi said his visit was intended to offer Khalwale a shoulder to lean on as he navigates the difficult days following the death of his wife.

The messages from the leaders have highlighted the personal cost of bereavement, with many describing Gloria as a warm and welcoming woman who was closely connected to Khalwale’s family and social circles.

The death has also brought together leaders from different political backgrounds, with condolences coming from across Western Kenya and beyond.

For Senator Khalwale and his children, the focus now remains on giving Gloria a dignified farewell as relatives, friends, political leaders and other mourners gather to pay their final respects.

The leaders have urged the family to draw strength from the memories they shared with Gloria and from the support of the wider community during the mourning period.

The outpouring of sympathy has also underscored the strong personal relationships that Khalwale has built across the political landscape over the years, with leaders putting aside political differences to stand with him during his hour of grief.

As the family prepares for Gloria’s burial, messages of condolence continue to dominate public discourse, with friends and leaders remembering her for her kindness, hospitality and the warmth she extended to visitors.

The leaders have prayed for strength and comfort for Senator Khalwale, his children and the entire family as they come to terms with the loss.

The family is expected to lay Mama Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale to rest tomorrow in accordance with the funeral arrangements.

Her death leaves behind a grieving family, friends and relatives who have continued to celebrate her life while mourning her passing.

May Mama Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale’s soul rest in eternal peace.
