“Security Starts and Stops With You, Murkomen,” Millie Odhiambo Tells Interior CS Over Homa Bay Violence

Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo has put Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on the spot over rising cases of insecurity and violence in Homa Bay County, saying the responsibility for security ultimately rests with his office.

Odhiambo said the Interior CS cannot distance himself from incidents where residents harm or kill each other, insisting that the national government must take full responsibility for maintaining law and order across the country.

The Mbita legislator directly challenged Murkomen, declaring that the security question in Homa Bay begins and ends with the Interior Ministry.

She argued that whenever people in Homa Bay engage in violence against one another, the responsibility cannot simply be left to local leaders or communities, noting that the national government has the constitutional mandate to protect lives and property.

Her remarks are likely to intensify pressure on the Interior Ministry to address security concerns in Homa Bay, particularly amid growing calls for stronger interventions to prevent violence and protect residents.

Odhiambo's statement also places the spotlight on the wider question of accountability within the security sector, with leaders increasingly demanding quicker government action whenever communities experience insecurity.
