Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has offered support to comedian Stellah Jemutai Koitie, popularly known as Jemutai Comedian – Chibambe, following her emotional appeal on social media.

Sudi said he was moved by Jemutai’s situation after she shared an emotional message online and subsequently deactivated her social media accounts.

The legislator said he decided to personally meet the comedian and offer support as she works to get back on her feet.“Today, I made a point of meeting her to offer my support in my own small way, to help her get back on her feet,” Sudi said.

He also said their meeting provided an opportunity to discuss ways of strengthening the creative industry, particularly stand-up comedy, and creating better opportunities for artists to earn a decent living.

Sudi, who serves as a patron supporting creatives, said there was a need to establish platforms that would enable comedians and other artists to showcase their talents while building sustainable careers.

He pledged to work towards taking creative arts and stand-up comedy to the next level, noting that supporting creatives was also an investment in the next generation.

The Kapseret MP said his focus would be on creating opportunities that can give artists a stable livelihood and help them build a foundation for future generations of creatives.

His intervention has drawn attention online, with many Kenyans welcoming the move to support artists facing personal and financial challenges.

The meeting also comes at a time when Kenya's creative sector continues to call for greater support, better monetisation opportunities and platforms where artists can turn their talents into sustainable sources of income.
