Kindiki Fires Back at Gachagua Over ‘Soprano’ Jabs

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has hit back at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following recent remarks targeting his voice and the nickname “Soprano.”

Speaking to supporters, Kindiki dismissed the name-calling as “mambo ya utoto”, questioning the political value of leaders who spend their time trading insults instead of discussing Kenya’s development agenda.

The Deputy President challenged politicians to shift their focus from personal attacks and concentrate on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.

Kindiki’s remarks come after Gachagua and his allies repeatedly made references to the Deputy President’s voice, with “Soprano” emerging as a political jibe in their exchanges.

Rather than engage in a prolonged war of words, Kindiki said political leaders should demonstrate a clear vision for the country and explain how they intend to improve the lives of citizens.

He questioned what Kenya stands to gain from political leaders who prioritise ridicule and insults over development.

The latest exchange adds a new layer to the growing political rivalry between Kindiki and Gachagua, whose relationship has remained a subject of intense political discussion since Gachagua left office.

Kindiki’s response is likely to reignite debate over the increasingly personal nature of political exchanges as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
