Kilifi Deputy Governor Leads Drought Relief Drive as Over 750 Households Receive Food Aid

Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule has led a county government delegation in distributing food supplies to more than 750 households affected by the ongoing drought in Bofu Village, Ruruma Ward, Rabai Sub-County.

The intervention, coordinated through the Kilifi County Department of Special Programs and Disaster Management, seeks to cushion vulnerable families facing food insecurity as the drought continues to affect livelihoods across parts of the county.

Speaking during the relief exercise, Chibule said the county government remains committed to supporting residents during difficult times while putting in place long-term measures to strengthen household resilience.

She said the county's responsibility goes beyond emergency interventions, noting that sustainable programmes are being implemented to improve livelihoods and empower vulnerable groups.

Through the Uzima Cash Transfer Programme, the county continues to provide support to elderly residents, while the County Wezesha Fund is being used to empower businesses and create economic opportunities, particularly for young people.

Chibule said the initiatives are aimed at enabling residents to build sustainable livelihoods and reduce their vulnerability to economic and environmental shocks.

“Our responsibility as a government goes beyond responding to immediate needs. We are implementing long-term interventions that strengthen livelihoods and improve the wellbeing of our people,” Chibule said.

She added that the county government will continue strengthening service delivery in key sectors, including healthcare, water, education, youth empowerment and women empowerment.

The Deputy Governor assured residents that the county administration will continue prioritising vulnerable households and ensuring that assistance reaches communities most affected by the drought.

The food distribution in Bofu comes as part of broader county efforts to provide immediate relief while advancing programmes designed to build a more resilient and inclusive Kilifi County.

Chibule said the government remains focused on ensuring that no family is left behind, particularly during periods of hardship, as it works towards a more prosperous and resilient county.
