Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya have intensified their political offensive in Western Kenya, declaring that the region will no longer be taken for granted ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Sunday during the second day of their Western Kenya tour, Sifuna said restoring the rule of law would be critical to rebuilding Kenya’s economy, attracting investment and restoring confidence among both local and foreign investors.

The ODM Secretary-General argued that investors require a predictable environment anchored on constitutionalism and respect for the law, warning that political interference with institutions could undermine the country’s economic prospects.

Sifuna maintained that court orders and judicial decisions must be respected regardless of political considerations, saying failure to comply with legal directives erodes the legitimacy of government actions.

“The rule of law is not negotiable. Court decisions must be respected,” Sifuna said, as he promised that the opposition would work to “return the country to sanity.”

The Nairobi Senator also launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing the government of mismanaging the country and failing to address the economic challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.

He likened the Kenya Kwanza administration to a “swarm of moths” that had allegedly ravaged the country, calling for a political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.

Natembeya: Western Kenya Has Locked Out Ruto

Governor Natembeya, who has emerged as one of the most vocal political figures in the region, told residents that the Luhya community had learnt from past political experiences and would no longer allow itself to be divided for political gain.

The Trans Nzoia Governor accused unnamed political leaders of perfecting the art of dividing the Mulembe Nation for their own interests.

He declared that Western Kenya would make its own political decisions and dismissed expectations that President Ruto would secure significant support in the region in 2027.

“Hakuna kura ya Ruto Western. We have locked this place, and if he dare think he will get anything here, I wish to tell him ng'oo,” Natembeya said.

The remarks drew cheers from the crowds, with the governor insisting that the region would no longer remain politically passive or allow outsiders to determine its political direction.

Natembeya said the Luhya community would instead seek unity and negotiate from a position of strength in the next political contest.

Western Kenya Tour Draws Crowds

The political team began the day by attending a Sunday service at ACK Mumias before moving through several centres in Western Kenya.

They addressed large crowds in Mumias Town, Shianda, Malaa, Navakholo and Malava, before concluding the day's engagements at Lumakanda.

The tour brought together a number of opposition and regional political leaders, signalling growing efforts to consolidate Western Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Among those accompanying Sifuna and Natembeya were DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleo Malala, Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Otsotsi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Kakamega Senate aspirant Brian Lishenga.

A host of other political aspirants from constituencies across Western Kenya also participated in the tour.

The leaders used the rallies to mobilise residents around calls for political unity, accountability and respect for constitutional institutions, while positioning themselves as a formidable regional force ahead of the 2027 elections.

With political alignments already beginning to take shape, the latest tour could further intensify the battle for Western Kenya's vote, traditionally regarded as one of the country's most influential voting blocs.

The leaders' declaration that the region will determine its own political direction also sets the stage for a potentially fierce contest between President Ruto's Kenya Kwanza camp and opposition forces seeking to wrestle Western Kenya away from the government in 2027.
