Seven people have died and 18 others sustained injuries after a vehicle lost control and overturned several times along the Kalamba–Kalembwani murram road in Nzaui Sub-County, Makueni County.

The tragic accident occurred at around 6:30pm on Friday at Kalembwani, along a steep section of the road.

Makueni County Traffic Commander John Kirima confirmed that seven passengers, six men and one woman, died at the scene after the vehicle rolled several times down an escarpment.

Eighteen other passengers were injured, with four reported to be in critical condition. The injured were rushed to Makueni County Referral Hospital and Matiliku Sub-County Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kilome Hospital mortuary in Matiliku town.

By Saturday evening, efforts to remove the wreckage from the steep escarpment were still ongoing.

Six More Injured in Separate Mbooni Crash

In a separate incident on Friday evening, six people sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in an accident along the Kalawa–Miangeni murram road in Mbooni East Sub-County.

The crash occurred at around 7pm, according to Traffic Commander Kirima.

Four of the victims sustained serious injuries, while two others suffered minor injuries. They were rushed to Kalawa Sub-County Hospital for medical attention.

The two accidents have once again raised concerns over safety on Makueni's murram and steep rural roads, particularly sections that pose challenges to motorists.
