Trans Nzoia CEC Eliud Tormoi praises citizen awakening, condemns ‘politics of money

Trans Nzoia County Executive Committee Member for Gender, Tourism, Culture and Sports, Eliud Tormoi, has urged Kenyans to reject voter bribery and support leaders who prioritise the public interest over personal wealth.

Speaking in Kitale on the shifting political climate, Tormoi condemned leaders who use money to manipulate voters, describing them as "political pirates" and "sellouts." He said that common citizens are finally taking charge of the country's political direction and demanding better governance.

"For the first time in this country, the common citizens are taking charge of their own affairs," Tormoi said. "The power belongs to the people."

He praised Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for spearheading this political shift. According to Tormoi, recent rallies in Matunda, Moi's Bridge, Sibanga, Kitale, Kiminini, and Bungoma have drawn genuine crowds without the need for financial incentives.

"Look at the organic crowds... people who came because it is time to emancipate this country," he stated. "We must free this country from these funny fellows."

Tormoi heavily criticised the culture of using wealth to influence political outcomes, referencing a recent event in Ol Kalou where he noted that public funds were wasted on political crowds. He warned that politicians who buy their way into office inevitably recover their money at the expense of public development.

Instead of relying on wealthy politicians, Tormoi proposed a model where citizens fund the leaders they believe in through small voluntary contributions, ranging from 10 to 1,000 shillings.

The CEC also dismissed claims by political rivals, including Senator Samson Cherargey, who have downplayed the authenticity of the recent citizen mobilisation.

"They don't believe in the common us. They don't believe in the people of this country," Tormoi said. "They are so selfish because they are on top, and they think everybody else must remain down there."

Tormoi concluded by calling for a complete transformation of Kenyan politics. He expressed confidence that leaders like Natembeya and Sifuna are ready to join hands with citizens to bring discipline and true governance back to the people.
