Shock and Outrage as Kapseret Residents Protest, Demand Justice for Slain Mother of Five Anne Chebitok

Residents of Simat in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu County, on Thursday staged peaceful demonstrations demanding the immediate arrest of suspects behind the gruesome killing of 59-year-old Anne Chebitok, a mother of five whose death has sparked outrage across the community.

The demonstrators marched through the area calling on security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure those responsible are brought to justice without delay. Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the residents described the incident as one of the most horrifying crimes to hit the area in recent years.

According to residents, Chebitok, who was living with mental health challenges, was allegedly strangled before being raped and sodomized by unknown assailants. The shocking circumstances surrounding her death have left family members, neighbours and local leaders demanding urgent action from law enforcement agencies.

Chebitok is survived by five children—three daughters and two sons. Her family described her as a loving mother whose life was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence.

In an emotional appeal, the family of Kapkombich Kaptinga Simat called on the government and security agencies to work together to ensure a swift, transparent and thorough investigation into the killing.

The family urged investigators to leave no stone unturned in identifying and prosecuting those responsible, saying justice for Anne would also help restore confidence among residents who now fear for their safety.

"Our beloved daughter was violently taken from us by unknown perpetrators. We appeal to our government leaders and law enforcement authorities to unite in ensuring a swift and thorough investigation and to bring the culprits to justice," the family said.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the Kaptinga and Simat communities, with many residents expressing concern over rising cases of gender-based violence and attacks against vulnerable members of society.

Residents also appealed for increased police patrols and improved security measures in the area to prevent similar tragedies in the future. They said vulnerable people, including women, children and persons living with disabilities or mental health challenges, require greater protection.

Messages of condolence continued to pour in from members of the community, who described Anne's death as a devastating loss not only to her family but to the entire neighbourhood.
