Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has announced that Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata has joined the party, describing the move as a significant milestone as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 General Election.

Speaking at his Wamunyoro residence, Gachagua welcomed Kang'ata into DCP, saying the governor had "come home" and joined what he described as "the party of the moment and the future."

According to Gachagua, the DCP has experienced rapid growth since its formation, attracting millions of supporters and thousands of aspiring candidates ahead of the August 10, 2027, General Election.

He said the party currently has one Member of the National Assembly and three Members of County Assemblies drawn from different parts of the country, adding that the party aims to become the majority in both Parliament and county assemblies after the next elections.

Several senior DCP leaders attended the meeting, including Secretary-General designate Senator John Methu, National Organizing Secretary Senator Mithika Linturi, Murang'a Senator Joe Nyutu, Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango, Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangw'a, and other party officials.

Kang'ata's move is expected to reshape the political landscape in the Mt. Kenya region as parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.
