Rift Valley Schools Battle for Regional Glory as Term Two Games Ignite Narok
The race for regional supremacy has intensified as schools from across the Rift Valley converge in Narok County for the 2026 Rift Valley Secondary Schools Term Two Games, with young athletes battling for honours and a chance to represent the region at the national stage.
The competition, hosted at various venues including Maasai Girls High School, has brought together top-performing schools from the 14 counties that make up the Rift Valley region, showcasing emerging talent in football, volleyball, netball, basketball, rugby and other disciplines.
The Uasin Gishu County Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Secretary highlighted the ongoing championship, noting the significance of the games in nurturing student talent and giving young athletes a platform to compete at a higher level.
The regional championships have attracted thousands of students, teachers, coaches and sports officials, creating a vibrant atmosphere as teams seek qualification slots to the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national competitions.
Narok County has provided the stage for intense competition, with schools arriving after emerging victorious in their respective county championships. Teams have been preparing for weeks, hoping to overcome strong opponents and secure regional bragging rights.
For many students, the games represent more than just competition. They offer an opportunity to showcase discipline, teamwork and determination while pursuing dreams of sporting success.
The host school, Maasai Girls High School, has played a central role in the championship by providing accommodation and facilities for participating teams. The institution is among the venues supporting the smooth running of the regional event.
However, the tournament also faced challenges after match officials temporarily suspended activities over a disagreement concerning their facilitation, briefly affecting fixtures across several sporting disciplines.
Despite the hurdles, organisers remain optimistic that the competition will continue successfully and provide a memorable experience for learners from across the region.
Education and sports stakeholders have continued to emphasize the importance of school games in identifying and developing talent, promoting healthy competition and preparing young athletes for future opportunities.
