PS Kello Harsama Drives Kenya's Clean Cooking Agenda with Mukuru LPG Success

Principal Secretary for the State Department for Petroleum, Kello Harsama, has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to expanding access to clean, safe and affordable cooking energy after inspecting the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) reticulation system at the Mukuru Affordable Housing Estate.

During the visit, PS Harsama assessed the flagship project, which has rapidly grown from serving 1,080 housing units at commissioning last year to more than 2,500 households today. The centralised piped LPG system delivers gas directly to homes through a secure pipeline network integrated with smart prepaid metering technology, eliminating the need for individual gas cylinders while providing residents with a safer, more convenient and reliable clean cooking solution.

The Principal Secretary said the Mukuru project demonstrates the Government's commitment to modernising household energy access through innovative infrastructure that enhances safety, improves convenience and supports sustainable urban living. He noted that the initiative is a key pillar of the National LPG Growth Strategy and aligns with Kenya's broader clean energy and environmental conservation objectives.

PS Harsama reaffirmed that the State Department for Petroleum will continue scaling up LPG reticulation systems across affordable housing developments nationwide to accelerate the transition to clean cooking, reduce dependence on biomass fuels, improve household safety and contribute to Kenya's climate change mitigation efforts.

His leadership continues to position the State Department for Petroleum at the forefront of delivering practical energy solutions that improve the quality of life for Kenyan families while advancing the country's sustainable development and clean energy agenda.
