KSh171 Million Karuna Dam Revamp to Transform Farming, Benefit Over 400 Families in Moiben

Residents of Karuna in Moiben Constituency are set to benefit from improved access to water following the commissioning of the KSh171 million Rehabilitation and Expansion of the Karuna Multipurpose Dam Project.

Moiben MP Prof. Phyllis Bartoo, accompanied by officials from the National Irrigation Authority, officially launched the project, describing it as a major milestone in strengthening food security and improving livelihoods in the constituency.

The upgraded dam is expected to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply to more than 400 families, schools and other government institutions, while significantly expanding irrigation farming in the area.

Prof. Bartoo said the investment is aimed at unlocking the agricultural potential of Karuna by ensuring farmers have access to water throughout the year, reducing dependence on unpredictable rainfall.

She noted that increased irrigation will boost crop production, enhance household incomes and contribute to food security, while also supporting learning institutions and public facilities with a dependable water source.

The MP emphasized that the project reflects the government's commitment to investing in infrastructure that directly improves the lives of wananchi and stimulates economic growth at the grassroots.

Residents are expected to benefit from expanded farming opportunities, improved livestock production and greater resilience against the effects of climate change and prolonged dry spells.

The Karuna Multipurpose Dam Project is among key water infrastructure initiatives being implemented to promote sustainable agriculture and accelerate socio-economic development in Moiben Constituency.
