Kindiki Breaks Silence After UDA's Ol Kalou By-Election Loss, Says Focus Now Shifts to 2027

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has broken his silence following the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)'s defeat in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, striking a conciliatory tone while signaling that the government has already shifted its focus to the 2027 General Election.

In a brief message shared after the declaration of the results, Kindiki acknowledged the outcome by comparing it to previous by-election performances, stating:

"Mbeere North: 1. Ol Kalou: 1. Final Match: 10 Aug 2027."

The statement suggests the Deputy President views the by-election as only one contest in a broader political journey leading to the next General Election, scheduled for August 10, 2027.

Kindiki's remarks come after Democracy for Citizens (DCP) candidate Sammy Kamau Waweru emerged victorious in the fiercely contested Ol Kalou by-election, handing UDA a significant setback in a race that had attracted intense national attention. The mini-poll had been widely viewed as a political test of strength between President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza administration and opposition forces allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Rather than dwelling on the loss, the Deputy President's message indicated that the government remains focused on the bigger political battle ahead in 2027.

Political analysts had described the Ol Kalou contest as a crucial indicator of the shifting political landscape in the Mt. Kenya region, with both government and opposition leaders investing heavily in the campaign.

Kindiki's response now sets the stage for renewed political competition as Kenya's major political formations begin positioning themselves for the 2027 General Election.
