Kamariny Leads the Way as Alumni, Student Leaders and Mentors Unite to Transform Learners’ Futures

A powerful mentorship movement is taking shape at Kamariny Primary School as alumni, professionals, teachers, and student leaders come together to inspire learners, nurture talent, and prepare the next generation for a brighter future.

Award-winning teacher and Kamariny Primary School Headteacher Shokwei V Barsulai has welcomed the return of mentors who have chosen to invest their time, knowledge, and experience in guiding young learners.

The programme follows a call made during the Elimu Conference by Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen, who challenged alumni, professionals, and community leaders to return to schools and mentor young people.

Murkomen emphasized the importance of experienced individuals sharing their knowledge and life experiences with learners as a way of building confidence, strengthening values, and preparing students for future responsibilities.

The call has since inspired action, with student leaders Kevin Kore and Sharon Jeruto, through EMSA, stepping forward to mentor younger learners and help them build strong academic and career foundations across the county.

The two leaders have organized a comprehensive mentorship programme addressing some of the most pressing challenges affecting students today. The initiative focuses on creating awareness around drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancies, peer pressure, personal responsibility, and effective exam preparation strategies.
