Hope Rises in Kerio Valley as New National School Opens Doors to Learners and Lasting Peace

For years, communities in the larger Kerio Valley have grappled with insecurity that disrupted livelihoods, education, and development. Today, a new chapter is unfolding as government investments in education and community development begin transforming the region.

One of the most significant milestones is the establishment of Kimore Boys' Senior School in Kimore Location, Keyio North Sub-County, Elgeyo Marakwet County. The new institution is being hailed as more than just a school—it is a symbol of hope, opportunity, and lasting peace for communities that have endured years of instability.

Built by the Ministry of Education under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) framework, Kimore Boys' Senior School is the first Category C1 National School dedicated exclusively to senior school education in both Elgeyo Marakwet and Uasin Gishu County.

The school offers all three approved CBE pathways, giving students the opportunity to pursue careers aligned with their talents, interests, and ambitions while supporting the government's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) through education and skills development.

Already, the school is alive with learning after welcoming its first cohort of 71 Grade 10 students—a milestone that marks the beginning of a brighter future for young people in the region.

Key facilities, including the administration block, dormitory, and dining hall, have been completed and are already in use. The dining hall was built with support from the Safaricom Foundation, while construction of additional classrooms is ongoing to accommodate future learners.

But the impact of the project extends far beyond education.

A newly drilled borehole, together with water storage facilities and community water kiosks, is providing a reliable supply of clean water to both the school and surrounding villages. For many families, this means easier access to safe water and less time spent searching for it.

Government officials say the school forms part of wider initiatives led by the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration to address some of the root causes of insecurity by expanding access to education, improving essential services, and creating opportunities for young people.

Residents hope that by keeping more children in school, improving access to resources, and strengthening community development, the region can continue moving away from conflict and towards lasting peace and shared prosperity.

For the 71 pioneer students who have already taken their seats in the classrooms, Kimore Boys' Senior School represents more than an education—it offers the promise of a future where opportunity replaces fear and learning becomes the foundation for lasting change in Kerio Valley.
