Uasin Gishu Intensifies Health Facility Inspections as County Pushes for Quality Healthcare Access
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has stepped up efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery through enhanced supervision and monitoring of public health facilities, with Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health Services Dr. Billy Lubanga leading an extensive inspection tour across Ainabkoi Sub-County.
The comprehensive supervision exercise focused on evaluating service delivery standards, healthcare infrastructure, availability of essential medicines, implementation of Taifa Care services, and the effectiveness of community health programs in public health facilities.
Speaking during the visits, Dr. Lubanga reaffirmed the county government's commitment to ensuring residents receive quality, accessible, and timely healthcare services.
At Ng'elel Tarit Health Centre in Kaptagat Ward, the inspection team found significant progress in service delivery. The facility offers Social Health Authority (SHA) registration, laboratory services, nutrition services, antenatal care, and maternity services. The centre also has a dedicated Public Health Officers’ office coordinating reports from Public Health Officers and Community Health Promoters (CHPs). Five Taifa Care tablets were operational, while two CHPs were actively supporting healthcare services.
The team later visited Katuiyo Health Centre, where key services including triage, immunization, infection prevention and control, and nutrition programs were functioning effectively. The facility, staffed by two nurses and a nutritionist, was also found to have adequate pharmaceutical supplies and staff housing units that support healthcare workers serving the community.
At Baharini Dispensary in Ainabkoi/Olare Ward, inspectors confirmed the availability of essential medicines, an operational injection room, and ongoing breast cancer screening services aimed at strengthening preventive healthcare.
A major highlight of the exercise was the inspection of Kipkabus Health Centre, which has emerged as one of the sub-county’s best-performing facilities. The centre offers comprehensive services including a Comprehensive Care Clinic (CCC), pharmacy services, ultrasound services, laboratory services, family planning, antenatal care, and cancer screening for cervical, breast, and prostate cancers.
The facility has also recorded impressive maternal health outcomes, registering 21 deliveries in May and seven deliveries in June, an indication of growing public confidence in its maternity services. Essential medicines, including Chronic Disease Management drugs, were adequately stocked, while service delivery charters were updated and displayed for public access.
During the visit, facility management committee member Reuben Cherop praised Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii for supporting infrastructural improvements at the facility, including renovations and painting works that have enhanced service delivery.
The inspection team also toured Chepng'oror Dispensary, where laboratory, pharmacy, and injection room services were operational, helping improve access to healthcare at the grassroots level.
At Tingwa Dispensary, Dr. Lubanga confirmed the availability of antenatal care profiling services, a functional pharmacy, and adequate drug supplies. The facility also hosted a joint engagement between Community Health Promoters from Chemworor and Tingwa, who discussed challenges affecting community healthcare and proposed solutions to improve service delivery.
Dr. Lubanga commended the Community Health Promoters for their dedication and urged them to continue playing a key role in advancing preventive and promotive healthcare within their communities.
The supervision exercise concluded at Ainabkoi Health Centre, where maternity and laboratory services were found to be fully operational, supported by sufficient stocks of essential medicines.
Also accompanying the inspection team was Ainabkoi Sub-County Health Coordinator Ms. Elima Kapkei.
County officials say the exercise underscores the government's continued investment in healthcare infrastructure, workforce support, and community health initiatives as Uasin Gishu works toward achieving universal access to quality healthcare services for all residents.
