TRENDING: DCP MPs Accuse Ruto Government of Ethnic Profiling, Reject Alleged Ebola Facility in Nanyuki

Leaders affiliated with the Democratic Change Party (DCP) from the Mt. Kenya region have launched a scathing attack on President William Ruto's administration, accusing it of ethnic profiling, state-sponsored violence, and failing to prioritize the safety and welfare of Kenyans.

Speaking during a joint press conference in Nairobi, DCP Secretary General-designate and Nyandarua Senator John Methu said the opposition had convened the briefing out of "necessity, nationhood and patriotism" to address what they described as two critical national concerns.

The first issue raised was the reported establishment of an Ebola quarantine, monitoring, or treatment facility at the Laikipia Air Base in Nanyuki. The leaders questioned the government's decision to authorize the facility and demanded transparency regarding its objectives and potential implications for public health and national security.

The opposition challenged the government to explain why Kenya should host such a facility, arguing that public concerns had not been adequately addressed. They further called on the administration to prioritize the interests of Kenyans and abandon plans for the facility.

"Kenyans' interests must come first," the leaders declared, urging health professionals and citizens to oppose the project.

Ethnic Profiling Claims

The second and more politically charged issue centered on allegations that the government is targeting communities from the Mt. Kenya region through what DCP leaders described as a deliberate campaign of ethnic profiling and political isolation.

According to the statement, President Ruto and senior government officials have allegedly promoted narratives aimed at undermining the political influence of communities from Mt. Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The leaders accused several senior government figures of fueling divisive rhetoric and warned that any future violence targeting the region would be viewed as state-sponsored.

They further alleged that protests and unrest witnessed in several towns across Mt. Kenya were infiltrated by criminal elements allegedly operating under state protection, leading to destruction of property and attempts to discredit opposition leaders.

Security Concerns Ahead of Future Protests

The DCP leaders also claimed to have received intelligence indicating possible plans to disrupt businesses and property during anticipated protests linked to the June Gen-Z anniversary demonstrations and debates surrounding the Finance Bill 2026.

Residents were urged to remain peaceful, safeguard their property, and remain vigilant against individuals seeking to incite violence.

The opposition called on Kenyans to reject ethnic divisions and maintain national unity, warning against a return to the political tensions that characterized previous election cycles.

Political Temperature Rising

The statement reflects the escalating political tensions between the government and opposition camps as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election. It also highlights growing debate over security, governance, public protests, and regional political influence.

As of publication, the government had not issued an official response to the allegations raised during the press conference.

The claims made by DCP leaders remain contested and have not been independently verified.
