THE PRESIDENT MUST ACT NOW: Human Rights Activist Warns of Rising Political Tensions and Security Threats

Eldoret-based human rights activist Kipkorir Ngetich has called on President William Ruto to take immediate action against what he described as growing political incitement and organized unrest that could threaten the country's stability.

Speaking on behalf of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Eldoret, Ngetich strongly condemned the recent chaos and protests witnessed in Nairobi and parts of Central Kenya, claiming that the demonstrations were not spontaneous but carefully organized and politically motivated.

According to Ngetich, the emerging pattern of unrest raises concerns about a broader strategy aimed at creating instability and undermining national security.

"We condemn in the strongest terms possible the chaos and clandestine activities being witnessed in Nairobi and some parts of Central Kenya. What we are seeing is a dangerous trend that could escalate into widespread civil unrest if not addressed decisively," he said.

The activist accused Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua of allegedly mobilizing and influencing young people in ways that could pose future security risks. He urged government security agencies to remain vigilant and closely monitor developments.

Ngetich argued that President Ruto has a constitutional responsibility to safeguard the country and ensure law and order prevail.

"The President must act now. Kenya cannot continue to witness political incitement and actions that have the potential to divide communities and destabilize the nation. The government must demonstrate that the rule of law remains supreme," he stated.

The activist further dismissed recent claims by Senator John Methu against Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, describing them as political diversions intended to mislead Kenyans and create unnecessary tensions.

He also expressed concern over remarks suggesting that members of the Kenya Defence Forces had approached political leaders with sensitive information, warning that such statements could amount to dangerous provocation if not substantiated.

"Any allegations involving our security agencies must be handled responsibly. Public statements that drag security institutions into political contests can undermine public confidence and national cohesion," Ngetich said.

The Centre for Human Rights and Democracy called on all political leaders, regardless of affiliation, to exercise restraint and avoid rhetoric that could inflame tensions among supporters.

Ngetich warned that leaders who intentionally create disorder often use chaos as a political tool to consolidate influence and manipulate public perception.

He appealed to the government to adopt a firm and comprehensive approach in dealing with what he termed continuous political incitement, adding that Kenya must not be allowed to slide into instability.

"The opposition must recognize that Kenya has a functioning government and constitutional institutions. Political competition should not come at the expense of peace, unity and national security," he said.

The remarks come amid heightened political activity across the country as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests, with growing concerns from various quarters over the tone and direction of national political discourse.
