Soy MP Accepts Unity Call, Agrees to Work with Governor Bii and MP Sudi
Soy Member of Parliament Hon. David Kiplagat has agreed to bury the hatchet and work closely with Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim and Kapseret MP Oscar Kipchumba Sudi following calls by religious leaders for unity among local political leaders.
Speaking after Governor Bii extended an olive branch and invited leaders for reconciliation talks, Kiplagat said he was ready to embrace peace and cooperation for the sake of development and the people of Uasin Gishu.
The legislator noted that political differences should not be allowed to derail service delivery, adding that leaders have a responsibility to put the interests of residents ahead of personal disagreements.
While welcoming the unity initiative, Kiplagat lightened the mood with a humorous remark directed at Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, saying that Sudi is usually the one who starts political fights before others are drawn into the disputes.
His comments drew laughter from supporters, underscoring the relaxed atmosphere surrounding the reconciliation efforts.
The move comes days after Governor Jonathan Bii publicly called for a political truce, declaring that he had forgiven anyone he may have wronged and urging fellow leaders to embrace dialogue and unity. The governor invited Kiplagat, Sudi, and other leaders to sit down together over a cup of tea and chart a common development agenda for the county.
Clerics and community leaders have in recent weeks intensified calls for political harmony in Uasin Gishu, arguing that unity among elected leaders is crucial in accelerating development projects and fostering social cohesion.
Political observers view Kiplagat’s acceptance of the reconciliation call as a significant step toward easing tensions that have characterized local politics, setting the stage for renewed cooperation among key leaders ahead of future political engagements.
